GLOBUL will offer more models of affordable smartphones this summer to promote its attractive tariffs to a larger audience with natural affinity to smartphones.
The characters from Angry Birds, the cult mobile game, are now part of GLOBUL smartphone commercials thanks to the cooperation between game creators Rovio, Deutsche Telekom and the companies within the COSMOTE Group.
The first TV spot, which premiered last weekend, features fragments from the video produced at an event shoot in Barcelona, Spain, this May. During the shoot, media reps and passers-by experienced the infectious magic of Angry Birds and played with game’s well known characters, including giant pigs and flying birds, blurring the boundaries between the virtual and real world. Passers-by became players and activated a giant real-life catapult and take part in the game for real with just a simple swipe of a finger on a smartphone screen.
Since its launch at the beginning of 2009, Rovio’s worldwide hit Angry Birds has established a new benchmark for successful smartphone applications and mobile gaming. The title has consistently topped consumer charts, achieving over 12,000,000 sales so far.
The new GLOBUL communication campaign will build on the success of the operator’s offers for smartphones at prices starting at BGN 1.50-per-month and the popular subscription plans with unlimited mobile internet traffic and attractive airtime bundles.
As a result of the attractive subscription plans and affordable handset offers, smartphone sales in GLOBUL commercial network marked 116% year-on-year growth in the first quarter of 2011, backed by the highly positive sales results for GLOBUL’s branded Q1, Q1 Second Edition and Z3 phones. As of the end of the quarter smartphones hold over 8% share of all devices active in GLOBUL network.
