Bulgaria’s Monbat advances bipolar battery plant project

Bulgarian battery manufacturer Monbat’s is proceeding with its investment project for a new production facility it plans to build in the city of Vratsa, data by the regional environment inspectorate shows. Monbat has requested the inspectorate on March 11 to issue an environmental impact assessment for the project, the authority said in a notice last month. Last year, Monbat said that it is considering investing in a new 2.4GWh plant for bipolar lead-acid batteries in Vratsa, in northwestern Bulgaria, and that may consider securing EU funding for the project. The planned investment will be in the area of 40 million levs ($22.2 million/20.5 million euro), local media reported at the time. In December of 2019, Monbat said that it has acquired licensing rights to the full suite of GreenSeal Bipolar Lead battery technologies of US-based Advanced Battery Concepts.
