Bulgaria’s unemployment rate is expected to rise to around 6% at the end of 2020 due to the ongoing novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, after reaching record-low levels of around 4% last year, economy minister Emil Karanikolov said on Wednesday.
Unemployment has already started to increase but we should also have in mind that there are a lot of people coming back from abroad and registering with labour offices, Karanikolov said in an interview for public broadcaster BNT.
Despite the expected recession caused by the coronavirus, Bulgaria is expecting to certify investment projects for over 120 million levs ($67.1 million/61.4 million euro) this year, Karanikolov also said.
