The foreign ministry on Monday expressed its deep concern about the developments in Myanmar, after the arrest of members of the government by the army. It called for their immediate release and asked for the will of the people to be respected, as expressed in the recent elections.

“We express deep concern regarding the developments in Myanmar, following news of the arrest and detention of Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, as well as other political figures,” the foreign ministry said in a statement on Twitter. “We call for their immediate release,” the ministry added, as well as asking “that the democratic will of the people, as expressed on the 8 November 2020 elections, will be duly respected.”
