GLOBUL and the company’s employees joined the National Nature Park Day initiative for a second consecutive year together with the Bulgarian branch of the global environmental organization WWF. The motto of this year’s campaign was The Nature is OurHome – Stop the Dirty Tricks.
The initiative was held on Saturday, May 29, 2010 simultaneously in all of the 11 Bulgarian nature parks: Vitosha, Rila Monastery, Zlatni Piasatsi, Vrachanski Balkan, Rusenski Lom, Stranja, Shumen Plateau, Bulgarka, Sinite Kamuni, Persina and Belasitza. Together, the parks are the largest protected area in the country and are visited by numerous tourists every year.
On a press conference held in Sofia, WWF Bulgaria Program Coordinator Veselina Kavrakova, GLOBUL Corporate Affairs Director Yassen Guev, WWF Bulgaria Communications Coordinator Konstantine Ivanov and actors Kamen Vodenicharov and Valery Yordanov presented the pland and the goals of this year’s campaign.
In 2009, over 2,300 volunteers took part the initiative and collected over 15 tons of waste. Once again, hundreds of volunteers are expected to take part in cleaning tourist routes, renovating the routes and recreation areas marking, installing and restoring signs in all of the 11 parks. A new element in the initiative this year is that a wooden bridge will be built in each of the nature parks of Bulgaria as part of the efforts to improve tourist infrastructure and as a symbol of the connection between people and nature. Again, celebrities, actors, journalists, musicians and foreign diplomats joined the National Nature Park Day.
