As indicated in OTE Group’s 2011 financial results, GLOBUL’s postpaid customer base increased by 13.3% year-on-year in Q4’2011, reaching 2.6 million, corresponding to over 60% of the total customer base. GLOBUL total revenues declined by only 0.8% in the last quarter of 2011, compared to the same period last year, as the strong performance on handsets sales could not fully compensate for the lower service revenues.

Following the trends of the previous quarters, the fourth quarter of 2011 has been quite challenging for the telecom sector, with domestic demand remaining subdued due to tight consumption and stagnating incomes. Fierce competition has led to continuous erosion of the retail prices mainly in the corporate segment and the market has approached saturation with estimated penetration of 147%. Nevertheless, total revenues for 2011 reached EUR 412.5 million, or just 2.6% lower than 2010.

GLOBUL service revenues decreased by 0.6% in Q4’2011, as the decline caused by the fierce competition in the business postpaid segment could be only partly compensated from the increased fix and mobile data revenues.

Earnings before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) for Q4’2011 decreased by 14.8% compared to Q4’2010, while the EBITDA margin is 6.1 pp lower than prior year. As a result, full year EBITDA decreased by 9.3% compared to 2010, while the EBITDA margin decreased by 2.8pp.

Despite market trends regarding the migration of prepaid customers to postpaid through innovative offers, GLOBUL has managed to slightly increase the prepaid customer base by 2.5% in Q4’2011. As a result, GLOBUL’s total customer base at the end of 2011 was about 4.3 million,  8.8% higher than in 2010.

GLOBUL’s fixed line services continued their strong growth in Q4’2011, with a subscriber base of approximately 210,000 customers. Mobile data services also recorded a significant increase vs. Q4’2010, as the subscriber base almost tripled.

Average usage per customer continued to grow with blended AMOU for Q4’2011 at 152 min., or almost 2% above Q4’2010, while blended ARPU for Q4’2011 has reached BGN 14.90, or 9% lower than the same period prior year.
