The past weekend Bansko was host to the eighth edition of the festival for opera and classical music Bansko Opera Fest. The festival featured a brilliant opening performance of the world-famous ballet “The Sleeping Beauty”, by the ballet of the State Opera Rousse. The second evening continued with the comic opera “Gianni Schicchi” by Giacomo Puccini, and the last evening the State Opera Varna performed the legendary musical “Cats”. The large-scale production brought together some of Bulgarian opera’s greatest stars, including Nayden Todorov, Stracimir Pavlov, Dobromir Momekov, Maria Cvetkova, Andreana Nikolova and Vesela Vasileva.
The festival took place under the open sky at the main town square. Admission to the festival was free, thanks to event organisers Bansko Municipality, Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko, and company Monte Music. Free passes for the first rows in front of the stage were provided especially for the hotel guests who decided to enjoy the three-day classical festival.
Mr Carsten Seubert, General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko, commented, “I am delighted that Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko had the chance to support Bansko Opera Fest for the eighth year in a row. It is one of the most spectacular events in Bansko and deservedly became a tradition for the town. We already have frequent guests who are arriving specially for the festival, which is great. Bansko became more and more popular as a year-round tourist destination, thanks to its varied summer event calendar, part of which is Bansko Opera Fest as well.”
