Healthcare workers at University Hospital Sofiamed were supported with 125,000 Bulgarian leva through the initiative

9 September 2021

Postbank and VISA implemented a joint socially responsible campaign in support of Bulgarian healthcare workers and their efforts in the fight against COVID-19. 125,000 Bulgarian leva was provided to University Hospital Sofiamed through The Power Is in Our Hands initiative, with which breathing apparatus of the highest class for active reanimation, oxygen concentrators and apparatus for high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy with permanent positive pressure will be purchased.

Every card-owner and customer of the bank had the opportunity to automatically join the initiative by using their VISA debit or credit card from Postbank, issued prior to 16 April 2021, and carry out at least one purchase with the card at a value of at least 30 Bulgarian leva in a commercial site or online store during the campaign period. For every eligible payment, Postbank contributed 1 Bulgarian lev in support of medical staff, who for more than a year have been at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19.

“We started this unique campaign to support medics who – with their professionalism and selflessness – continue fighting the virus from the forefront. As one of the banks with the most active corporate social responsibility policies, our customers showed solidarity with our cause though this initiative as we contribute while they do their everyday shopping. We believe that every good deed leaves a mark – and we have been doing precisely that for 30 years now with our socially responsible causes and long-term actions in the interest of society,” Dimitar Shoumarov, executive director, CFO and member of the Management Board of Postbank shared.

As a token of gratitude for the participation and solidarity, the bank’s customers and VISA cardholders receive a special digital certificate, acknowledging their contribution to the initiative.

“While the COVID-19 pandemic continues transforming a major part of life and business, VISA’s main mission to connect the world, to give people, businesses and economies the opportunity to thrive has never before been more important. We will continue carrying out our activity and using the power of our brand, the scope and resources we have to support communities worldwide. We are proud to be partnering with Postbank in The Power Is in Our Hands campaign, joining in overcoming the immediate challenges due to the pandemic in Bulgaria and supporting local healthcare workers,” Krassimira Raycheva, country manager of VISA for Bulgaria said.

University Hospital Sofiamed thanked Postbank for their highly humane act and pointed out that the support of businesses is extremely important to the Bulgarian healthcare system and to society in such a difficult time for all.

“Thanks to the funds we will guarantee cutting-edge treatment for Bulgarian patients affected by the COVID-19 virus in the specialized treatment unit at the hospital. The efforts of our medical teams, as well as the funds invested in constant improvement of treatment conditions for patients with COVID are a main priority for all hospital managers and their teams this year, especially in the context of the expected rise of the fourth wave of the virus. With the support of The Power Is in Our Hands, our medical teams feel not only the high assessment of their hard work, but also the trust society has put in them. Bulgarian society can only be proud of socially responsible companies like Postbank and VISA who, through their long-term socially responsible initiatives and policies, offer this essential to all support,” Yordan Pelev, MD, manager of University Hospital Sofiamed noted.

The campaign in support of Bulgarian healthcare workers and hospitals in the country is yet another socially responsible gesture of Postbank in fighting COVID-19. Over the past year, the financial institution supported the largest maternal and childcare hospital – Maychin Dom in Sofia, University Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment and Emergency Medicine N. I. Pirogov, University Hospital Sofiamed and several other hospitals in Sofia and Sliven. In 2021, Postbank celebrated 30 years on the Bulgarian market and in this period it has always been a full-fledged participant in the processes in the Bulgarian society with active serious socially responsible and contributory activity.
