The initiative supports the global commitment of the Coca-Cola System “World Without Waste” and will save 2 tons of plastic shrink-wrap in the country annually
The Coca-Cola System in Bulgaria introduces the innovative KeelClip™ packaging technology. The initiative is part of the “World Without Waste” commitment to reduce the use of plastic shrink-wrap by using solutions that are more sustainable and easier to recycle. The plastic shrink-wrap currently used for packaging a multipack of 6 cans will be replaced with the KeelClip™ cardboard technology to which the cans will clip into, minimizing the need for secondary plastic.
“KeelClip™ is our latest investment in innovative, sustainable packaging solutions and another confident step towards our commitment to delivering our “World Without Waste” goals. With this seemingly small change in packaging, we will save 2 tons of plastic shrink-wrap in Bulgaria annually and contribute to the realization of our commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2040”, shares Juerg Burkhalter, General Manager of Coca‑Cola HBC Bulgaria.
“World Without Waste” is a mission that, with solutions like KeelClip™, leads to real results in reducing the environmental impact of our activities. Innovation is a key principle for us when searching for more sustainable alternatives to our packaging and the application of this paperboard KeelClip™, which comprises a top board that the cans clip into, is another step towards eliminating all unnecessary and hard to recycle single-use plastic from our products”, shares Dora Strezova-Nikolova, General Manager of Coca-Cola Bulgaria.
The KeelClip™ technology is suitable for can multipacks of various diameters and heights, and provides a safe, effective package with no need for secondary plastic. In total, Coca-Cola HBC invests €15 million in KeelClip™, saving 2,000 tonnes of plastic and 3,000 tonnes of CO2 annually across its European Union markets.
