Bulgarian steel mill Stomana Industry, a unit of Belgium-based Viohalco, will lay off 301 workers due to a drop in production and lower production prices resulting from the coronavirus outbreak, local media reported on Thursday.
The company’s decision will enter into force on April 23, public radio broadcaster BNR reported.
It will leave Stomana Industry with a staff of 950 and a further 350 employed by its subsidiaries.
Stomana Industry produces concrete reinforcing steel, heavy plate, merchant bars, special steels, profiles and sections. Its steel plant is located in Pernik, some 20 km southwest of Sofia.
