For a third consecutive year, GLOBUL and GERMANOS will join the international environmental organization WWF initiative Earth Hour to be held between 20:30 and 21:30 of March 26, 2011.
Since its launch in 2007 the initiative calls upon people, companies and public institutions to turn off their lights in a certain day and hour of the year and thus support decisive international actions against climate change. In 2010 over 4000 cities and 56 capitals in 126 countries and territories, including 44 Bulgarian towns, responded to that call.
In 2011 GLOBUL and GERMANOS will be Earth Hour participants and ambassadors for a third year in a row. The two companies will turn off the electric lighting at their office buildings and over 230 shops as well as their major advertising facilities in Sofia, Varna and Burgas. Only the systems providing the seamless network operation and customer service will be left online.
In addition to their personal example, GLOBUL and GERMANOS count on active communication to encourage their clients, employees and partners to join the Earth Hour. This year more than 200 of the two companies’ employees stated they would take part in the initiative together with their families, and over 500 Facebook users have accepted the operator’s invitation to attend the Earth Hour with GLOBUL event so far. Detailed information about the initiative, interesting facts and ideas on how to spend the hour without electricity are published on the event’s wall.
GLOBUL supports the global initiative as part of its long-term environmental sustainability strategy GLOBUL Green. Thanks to it, the operator saved 1862 tons of carbon emissions in 2010 alone.
