7 acres of planted forests, 2220 bags of collected waste from 15 locations and over 30 km of cleaned coastal areas are among the results in the latest editions of the campaign
Over 1000 employees from the Coca-Cola System in Bulgaria participated in the 15th edition of the volunteer initiative “My Green City”. They cleaned 10 polluted locations near Sofia, Varna, Burgas, Plovdiv, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, Stara Zagora, Haskovo, Sandanski and Smolyan, collecting hundreds of bags of waste. The initiative was organized in support of World Cleanup Day and in partnership with the bTV campaign – “Let’s clean Bulgaria together”.
For the first time, in all 10 cleaned locations within “My Green City”, the waste was collected separately and sent for recycling.
The largest group of volunteers was concentrated in the capital as hundreds of supporters cleaned the area around the Pancharevo lake, the Samokovsko shose turns and the river valley of Iskar from the side of village German.
“For the Coca-Cola team, the 15th edition of “My Green City” is another opportunity not only to transform 10 beautiful Bulgarian locations but also to continue sharing common values with our employees and their families for a more sustainable development of local communities and our planet. I thank all of them for the good example they are setting and for proving together that consistent actions lead to significant results in the name of our better and greener tomorrow”, shared Jüerg Burkhalter, General Manager of Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria.
The My Green City initiative is implemented in support of the Coca-Cola System’s global commitments to achieve by 2030 the equivalent of 100% collection and recycling of every bottle or can sold by the company, and by 2040 to become a carbon neutral company.
As part of the previous fourteen editions of the campaign, employees from the Coca-Cola System in Bulgaria managed to plant, clean and improve a number of lands, forest spaces and parks across the country. Every year, in support of the campaign, locations are selected where volunteer work is necessary and useful in the overall care of the environment and it contributes to the improvement of the ecological conditions and resources in the certain location. Just for the last four editions of the initiative, the volunteers who participated managed to plant more than 7 acres of forests, collect more than 2,220 bags of waste from 15 locations across the country and clean more than 30 km of coastal areas.
