Bulgaria will build a pilot smart road safety system worth 2.1 million levs ($1.3 million/1.1 million euro) on parts of its road network with funds for the project provided under the EU’s operational programme Regions in Growth 2014-2020, the regional development ministry said on Thursday.
The system is expected to enhance road safety at 11 critical sections with a total length of 120 km, part of second and third-class roads in the country, the regional development ministry said in a statement.
The project includes the supply and installation of 23 electronic roadside information boards equipped with traffic cameras and sensors for temperature and visibility as well as smart road markings.
