The official opening of the exhibition “Mount Athos in Sofia” on 17 October 2026 brought together religious leaders, distinguished guests and representatives of the Greek and Bulgarian communities at the National Palace of Culture (NDK) in Sofia.

The ceremony was honoured by the presence of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and His Holiness Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil, marking a significant moment of spiritual and cultural connection between Greece and Bulgaria.

Among those attending were representatives of the Hellenic Business Council in Bulgaria (HBCB), Mr. Vasilis Satslis, Managing Director of ALUMIL Bulgaria, and Mr. Pantelis Papadopoulos, Managing Director of Eurofast Bulgaria.

Their participation reflected HBCB’s commitment to supporting not only business cooperation but also cultural initiatives that bring the Greek and Bulgarian communities closer together.

Discovering the Spiritual World of Mount Athos

The exhibition presents 50 monumental paintings by the late Greek-Austrian artist, architect and educator Efthymios (Makis) Warlamis (1942–2016), alongside photographic portraits from the Mount Athos Photo Archive.

Through expressive colours, striking depictions of monasteries and landscapes, and glimpses into monastic life, visitors are invited to discover the unique atmosphere and centuries-old traditions of the Holy Mountain.

The collection offers more than an artistic experience. It conveys a message of peace, reflection and mutual respect, reminding visitors of the spiritual and cultural heritage that has connected generations across borders.

When Business and Culture Come Together

The opening also provided an opportunity for HBCB representatives to meet with sponsors and supporters of the exhibition, highlighting the valuable role of the business community in making important cultural initiatives possible.

HBCB is particularly proud to acknowledge the contribution of Mr. Prodromos Mavropoulos, a member of the Council and one of the exhibition’s sponsors. His generous support represents a meaningful example of how business leaders can contribute to preserving cultural heritage and promoting closer ties between our two countries.

For the Hellenic Business Council in Bulgaria, building strong relationships goes beyond trade and investment. Cultural exchange, shared traditions and personal connections are equally important in strengthening the longstanding friendship between Greece and Bulgaria.

The exhibition “Mount Athos in Sofia” is a beautiful reminder that art and culture have the power to bring people together, creating bridges of understanding that extend well beyond the business world.
