NEW GREEK CINEMA Panorama Brings Award-Winning Greek Auteur Cinema to Sofia

Sofia will host the first edition of the NEW GREEK CINEMA Panorama from May 28th to June 3rd, 2026 at Odeon Cinema, presenting a carefully curated selection of contemporary Greek auteur films, cult classics, and international co-productions with Bulgarian participation.

Organized by Garti Films with the support of the Embassy of Greece in Bulgaria, the National Culture Fund, Odeon Cinema and OneBook Bookstore, the festival introduces Bulgarian audiences to a new generation of Greek filmmakers whose works have received international acclaim at some of the world’s most prestigious film festivals, including Venice, Berlin, Locarno, Sundance, Toronto, Sarajevo and Karlovy Vary.

The programme combines bold aesthetics, strong emotional storytelling and distinctive cinematic voices, offering audiences a unique journey through contemporary Greek cinema and its diverse artistic expressions.

Among the featured titles are:

  • Interruption by Yorgos Zois, premiered at the Venice International Film Festival
  • Digger by Georgis Grigorakis, presented at Berlinale
  • Park by Sofia Exarchou, premiered at Toronto International Film Festival
  • L by Babis Makridis, screened at Sundance
  • the cult classic Singapore Sling by Nikos Nikolaidis
  • and Theo Angelopoulos’ celebrated masterpiece The Suspended Step of the Stork, restored in 4K and nominated for the Palme d’Or.

Special attention is also given to Greek-Bulgarian co-productions such as Arcadia and Medium, whose screenings will be accompanied by the presence of Bulgarian creators and artists involved in the productions.

All screenings will feature Bulgarian and English subtitles.
