The Health Ministry’s committee of coronavirus medical experts has proposed a one-month nationwide full lockdown, said Minister of Health Vassilis Kikilias on ANT1 TV on Wednesday.
The minister did not provide any further details of secondary measures that may accompany the lockdown, but said the final decision in this matter rests with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, scheduled to make relevant anouncements on Thursday.
“It has been 5 months since the first lockdown,” he noted and “the economy withstood it for 5 months, while society and tourism functioned, and the health system endured, saving thousands of lives.”
Kikilias pointed out that the government’s utmost priority is protecting human life, as “we do not want to see the pictures we see in other countries with thousands of fatalities.”
